Professional Experience Smart Growth and Sustainable Development Technical assistance to communities on smart growth issues including affordable housing strategies, natural resource protection, transportation choices, mixed use development, reuse and redevelopment, and zoning and regulatory tools to encourage sustainable growth. Workshop development and delivery. Transportation Investment and Policy Analysis Economic, community and social impacts of major transportation investments including highways, airports, and transit. Development and assessment of transportation policies and their effects on land use and development. Projects conducted for federal, state and local agencies in California, Massachusetts, Indiana, Ohio, Texas, Wisconsin, Oregon, Connecticut, New York, Maine, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. Transit and Land Use Analysis Analysis of the relationship between transit and land use; creation and evaluation of land use strategies to encourage development around transit; development of transit-oriented development policies and programs. Economic Development Strategies and Planning Preparation of detailed strategies to improve economic conditions in both urban and rural areas. Market studies, analysis of business and census data, site assessments, and development pro forma analysis. Proven implementation strategies tailored to individual community conditions and interests. Projects completed in California, New York, Ohio, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Land Protection and Open Space Planning Successful campaigns to save over 300 acres of land, including grant writing, community outreach, and town meeting presentations. Open space plan development and guidance documents for protecting natural resources and open land. Aided in the successful adoption of the Community Preservation Act in several North Shore (Boston area) communities.
